Container Gardens ~ Our Fairfield Home & Garden
Container gardens are so handy! Quick and easy to make, they fill that bare spot where nothing will grow, add a pop of needed color and lend interest and whimsy to the garden.
Most anything can be planted. You’re only limited by your own imagination! As long as there is drainage and enough soil depth for the plantings, you are in business.
Old toys, garden equipment, birdbaths and odds and ends from inside and out can all become a planted container. Less durable, but fun conversation pieces, are planted purses, shoes, chairs, dressers, bed frames and baskets.
Recycled and upcycled planters are often the least expensive and most unexpected container gardens. Try looking at that stuff in your basement, attic and garage in a new way. Don’t trash it, plant it!
When planting, group plants by their size in relation to the container you will use and their sun requirements. Remember to read the labels so your plants don’t outgrow their space!
Once planted, your container garden should be placed for maximum impact. But, these gardens are portable if you change your mind and want to relocate them.
Here are just a few of the various planted containers found here at Our Fairfield Home and Garden. I hope they spark your imagination! Happy Container Planting!
And here’s a pretty pallet planter filled with Petunias I saw on a greenhouse run for our garden!

What wonderful ideas! I have some stuff that can be turned into planters! I’m going to look at some of yours more closely…like the birdbath, wheel barrow, for inspiration. I just love all of yours!
So very nice of you to leave a comment, Cecilia! Yes, just about anything can become a planter! Just make sure you have drainage and good soil! Have fun!
