Road Trip ~ Lancaster County Greenhouses
Spring is now officially here, because my friend and I have made the first trek to our favorite Lancaster County greenhouses in Kirkwood, Pennsylvania.
We started out at Lone Pine Nursery, which is Amish-owned and operated, on a family farm. Not only do you find wonderful plants at bargain prices, the ladies of the family are exceptionally friendly and helpful. They will create lovely hanging baskets with plants of your choosing as you stroll through the greenhouses.
For wonderful herbs, vegetable starts, annuals, houseplants, hanging baskets and some perennials (like their gorgeous Lupines), Lone Pine has become our first stop. It isn’t large, but the service and farm scenes are such a treat for us former country girls.
Then it’s on to Groff’s Plant Farm, which is also family-owned and operated. If you can’t find it at Groff’s, you probably don’t need it! Greenhouses galore plus row upon row of outside tables filled with seasonal selections for shade and sun and in-between. There’s always something new, whether it’s the latest plant variety or whimsical handcrafted garden accents. After filling a wagon or two, enjoy sipping ice water and some friendly chit-chat while checking out.
As always, the car is filled to the brim before we knew it. Time to plant our finds and plan for our next visit!

Stopping by Amish farmstands for fresh brown eggs, shoo fly pie and strawberries on the way to Groff’s Plant Farm!

Row after row of shade plants! Sun perennials and greenhouses galore to tempt you at Groff’s Plant Farm!
Looks like a fine day! Hope you got a great selection of goodies.
Never enough plants! I have already planted them and will be going back for a few more soon!
So much fun Barb! I just went to my favorite nursery with my sisters and girlfriend yesterday and will be posting about it on Tuesday. Truly a favorite time of year. I’ll have to ask my husband if he ever heard of any of the ones you visited. He’s from York, PA. I’ll post this on FB for my Central PA family.
So fun to go with friends and family on these little road trips, Patti! Hope you all bought something wonderful!I’ll look forward to seeing your finds!
