DIY ~ Pass-Along Plant Tote
A good friend of mine just shared some lily divisions from her garden with me and the container she used was such a great idea, I had to share it with you! You probably already have the few materials needed.
This handy Pass-Along Plant Tote holds a lot and even has a built-in handle for easy transport. Perfect for sharing your extra garden plants with family and friends for fall or spring planting.
If you have indoor cats like the two of us, you probably would like a way to upcycle those used containers, too. And, if you don’t have cats of your own, I’ll bet you know someone who does!
You can easily whip up several of these ingenious carriers in less than a half hour. Let me show you how.
Draw a cutting line guide just behind the container’s spout to the first bump-out. Continue this line across the front and back up to link with where you started. It does not have to be perfect!
Now, cut carefully on the line you drew using a box cutter knife.
Make extras to give to your friends and family. Gardeners will love them.
Get fancy! Use the permanent marker to write “Pass-Along” on the side, or draw flowers, or “From The Garden Of —-“. Have fun!
The finished Pass-Along Plant Tote will hold water and quite a few plants as you can see here.
It is a handy size that fits easily on the floor behind the car’s front seat.
If you put it in a hatchback or trunk, make sure to wedge things around it so it does not topple over when you turn!
Great idea! I have the bigger tubs but those would work just as well…no cutting required. I’m going to do up a few!
Sounds like a plan, Cecilia! I just shared some “Pass-Along” plants with a gardening friend today in one of these containers and told her she could keep the container!
good idea my garden is pitiful wish someone would pass along some plants to me ha ha xx
You will have to talk to your friends and neighbors, Chris! Even better if you can get them to dig the holes too! :)
Nice way to gift flowers to someone. Very smart and unique and the color of it is pretty too. Probably would also use that for watering plants too. It probably holds more than what I’m using right now-an empty large plastic juice bottle!
It is a handy-dandy little help for the home gardener, Lorraine!
