Indoor Gardening ~ Winter Beauty
In the midst of winter there is still floral beauty here at Our Fairfield Home and Garden thanks to tropical houseplants and forced bulbs. The crimson red of Anthurium strikes a note and cheers the garden room. Tete a Tete narcissus bulbs, planted in fall at week intervals in anticipation of winter, are now sunny yellow accents in the kitchen window. Paperwhites and amaryllis, with their tall stems entwined, perform a duet as sweet hyacinths perfume the air.
Although less abundant than the spring and summer flowers, these little beauties give ease to a gardener’s heart as she waits for spring.
Bar love all your beautiful flowers. I forced some hyacinths this year and only one bloomed.
Then there’s the Amaryllis still only green stocks.
Any help you can pass my way will help……
Hi, Linda! Are they getting enough light? Just like any other plant, forced bulbs need a good sunny spot. You often see them photographed as table decorations, etc. , but they need good light to grow. Also, forced bulbs will not bloom as well if fertilized since that works more on the foliage. Hope that helps out! Happy indoor gardening!
