Signs of Spring at Our Fairfield Home & Garden

My favorite ruffled pansy!

Signs of Spring are everywhere now. The winter was a long one and all the spring blooms are about two weeks behind, but they are here! Greening lawns, leaf buds on trees and shrubs and the constant bird activity and song tell me there’s no going back now. My biggest temptation, as usual, is to jump the gun and plant too early. Nights are still very cool and I will have to be patient. Mother’s Day is our marker for planting after the possibility of frost and an easy date to remember (for zone 7a).

Day temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s are perfect for getting outside and preparing the garden for planting. As they emerge, I am dividing and replanting perennials. Once again, we are out in the gazebo for lunch, although it is still too cool for breakfast. All the birdbaths are filled and our house cats are perched in the opened windows keeping an eye on the action. The sun is on my back, the bees are buzzing and I am surrounded by green. Life is good!

Great pics! Looking forward to the end of winter. Doing daily walks checking for any sign of spring here. It’s definitely starting!
