Meet The Garden Charmers ~ Part 1 (Stephanie, Carol, Judy & Karin)
Last summer, a group of bloggers with diverse backgrounds from far flung locations joined forces to become “The Garden Charmers”. Hailing from all over the US, Canada, as well as Europe, our name is derived from “a charm of birds” meaning a flock, and we all tend and love our gardens. We have really enjoyed getting to know each other as we work on projects together and support one another. So, now it’s your turn to get to know us, too! Meet all The Garden Charmers in this three-part series of mini-interviews. See their most popular posts and where you can find more of their wonderful work!

My blog originally started as a place for me to share my love of the garden and to connect with others. But soon I began getting comments from visitors on how much they loved the idea of gardening but didn’t know where to start. To help them find their green thumbs, I began creating and posting simple DIY craft projects. I made them easy enough to get people outside so they’d have a chance to fall in love with the garden the way I have. My favorite topics are garden projects, crafts and recipes. Anything related to the garden from concrete stepping stones to homemade soap is what you wi find on my blog.
Readers would be surprised to learn that I have grown over 100 edible plants and 400 perennials in my garden, have done over 200 garden-related projects and cook from the garden as much as I can…all of this in my small urban garden. I live right in the city where lots are small. But you don’t need a lot of space to garden, just some earth, sunshine, water and seeds!

I first started blogging in 2009 with my jewelry blog and got the blog bug in a big way. Since then I have started several more blogs. My main one is The Gardening Cook, which has a basic theme of anything related to gardening, cooking and, more recently, nesting. DIY projects, recipes, gardening and how-to articles are my favorite things to write about. I love seasonal decor articles and writing about trends in home decor.
Perhaps my most surprising bit of personal information is that I lived for 15 years in Australia, and had my only child while I was there at the age of 41. I also taught music in the public school system in Maine, then taught preschool in North Carolina for five years when my daughter was young.

It all started with Pinterest. I had posted pictures of My Gardens 2012, and this wonderful person, Barb Rosen, noticed. She included my gardens in her Secret Garden Tour board. I was honored. Following Barb was all the inspiration I needed (I want to be her when I grow up.) And then there was the invitation to join The Garden Charmers. My 30th anniversary was coming up for Magic Touch and my plan was to launch a website to honor the day, August 18, 2013. And then Blogging started. The Blogging Bug has bit, and not even my Plantain Salve will neutralize that venom…It works for bee stings, though.
If I had to pick, I would have to say my favorite topics are anything in relation to nature. I have created my very own enchanted world with my gardens, inviting nature in and giving it a place to land. Birds, butterflies, as well as plants, including weeds, will be featured. Understanding nature and its habits comes in handy when planning gardens.
Readers might be surprised to know that I am a hairstylist by profession, I have a purple streak in my hair, leopard nails and I wear flip-flops year round. Oh, and for my 35th birthday, I got a heart tattooed on my left ankle. I am passionate about everything I do and have found the proper outlet through blogging. Much like Melissa, tell me I can’t and I will prove you wrong.

The Markgraeflerland is my home and the focus of my blog. I live where others go on holiday and it is a very livable area: The beautiful scenery, the spas, the wine and good food. Pure enjoyment! I started blogging because I wanted to have my own collection of favourite recipes. I have a lot of books about cooking and baking and also handwritten recipes from my mother, my grandmother and friends. Some of them are very old. Often I found interesting recipes I wanted to try, but couldn’t remember where I had seen them. So I started to cook one by one to create my own collection that I wanted to share with other bloggers. In my garden I grow mostly herbs but also some flowers – my favourite ones are the roses,of course, which can also be used in various recipes. There’s also a very old apple tree. So, my blog also is about my garden and garden tours nearby.
I love the beautiful surroundings I live in and began to take photos and write about them as well. If there is a special market or a nice café, I write about it, too. Gardening, cooking, baking and the area I live in are my favorite blog topics. I especially love regional and seasonal cooking. Sometimes I try dishes from places I have visited as well.
Readers might be surprised to know that I live in Germany and recently began translating my blog posts into English for my English speaking readers. To date, I have written 1,064 blog posts!
